FUNKY BIZNESS GANG

(Yekaterinburg, Russia)

Funk in the Urals is not an exotic thing – a band called Funky Bizness Gang has been writing and playing the original groovy stuff there for about ten years already. There are five albums and dozens of live shows in FBG portfolio, including the remarkable performances in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other Russian cities.

The band’s new album called Backbeat was released June 28th, 2016. The main idea of this release is coming back to the roots. While built on a vintage basis, it sounds fresh thanks to the dynamic performance. There’s no need to be an expert in more than fifty-year history of funk to feel the musicians’ sincere emotions.

Backbeat contains seven tracks expanding from the lyrical groove of Beat Inside My Soul to flamboyant funk of The Roots Reunited, from soft and yet satirical You Don’t Know to the spiritual hymn Soul System. The album’s real gem is a heartfelt ballad Put the Lights Down Low sung by a special guest Berenice van Leer — a Dutch vocalist renowned for her collaboration with the famous acts Kraak & Smaak and Wicked Jazz Sounds. By the way she’s the daughter of Thijs van Leer – the founder of the legendary Focus rock band.
